Our Land Rover service center wants to ensure drivers can properly jump-start their Land Rover vehicle. If you are a first-time car owner or want to refresh your skills, just follow our guide to jump-starting your car battery, prepared by the experts at Land Rover Jacksonville.

Check Your Battery

Check your vehicle’s battery to ensure that it has no damage. If your vehicle’s battery is leaking, frozen, or corroded, it is recommended to not jump-start your car due to safety concerns. If you notice damage, contact roadside assistance, and take your Land Rover directly to our service center.

Recruit a Working Vehicle

A working vehicle will be needed to jump-start your car’s dead car battery. It can be positioned by the car’s front bumpers or side-to-side. Ideally, both vehicles should be close so the jumper cables can connect easily. Also, remember to turn off both cars.

Jump Start Your Land Rover Vehicle

Begin by connecting one of the red jumper cables to the positive (red) terminal, or post, of the dead battery. Then, connect the other red cable to the positive terminal of the working battery, followed by attaching the black clamp to the negative post. Attach the other black cable to an unpainted part of the vehicle, such as the engine block.

Do not attach the black clamp to the negative terminal of the dead battery, which could produce sparks that could ignite flammable substances. Ensure that all cables are properly secured before starting both cars.

Start Your Engines

Start the working vehicle and leave it running for a few minutes to charge the dead battery. Then, start the car with the dead battery. If the vehicle does not turn over, wait a few minutes before trying again. Once it starts, leave your vehicle running for 15-20 minutes to ensure it is fully recharged.

If your vehicle still does not start, call for a tow truck and make an appointment at your local Mazda service center. There may be more extensive damage to your vehicle.
